Why My Favourite Day in Sweden Isn't On the Calendar

Why My Favourite Day in Sweden Isn't On the Calendar

“There is a time of year in New York when, even before the first leaf falls, you can feel the seasons click. The air is crisp, the summer is gone. And for the first night in a long time, you need a blanket on your bed.”

If you read this quote and are swept back to wine nights with girlfriends, episode binges, and deep contemplation about Aidan vs. Big, then you are my people.  And in case you have no clue what I'm talking about, its a quote from Sex & the City... and you are still so welcome here.

I decided to use part of this quote on my ever so important Pumpkin Spice candle this Fall.  However, before starting my candle business, the quote was something I've thought about as we head toward Spring.

In Sweden, there’s that morning in January where you leave for work and realise that you aren’t in total darkness.  There is a tinge of glowy light in the sky and it's not because you're running late.  (This morning, January 15th, the sky was yellow and pink).  This “click” from dark to light is palpable in Sweden.  A beautiful yet simple reminder that nature will have its course once again.  The sun has not forgotten us and days with longer light will arrive.

For me it is a true meaning for celebration!  And so every year I have my own personal celebration on this day. I take a picture of this first morning light, smile at the sky, and then I think about Carrie closing the window of her flat.

Those "clicks"  are what makes me love living somewhere with four seasons. The mini celebrations we have in order to embrace and enjoy the ebb and flow of Mother Nature.

Do you have any of your own personal celebrations?  If so, I would love to hear!

Love,

Amy
